Thanks to the Virginia Tech BEST program travel award I was able to attend the NIH career symposium in May 2015. This was my first time attending a career symposium and it was extremely beneficial in that it gave me insight into various career opportunities I was previously unaware of. Upon arriving at the symposium I was shocked to see how many people I would need to compete with in order to reach my career goals. After attending several discussion panels and learning about all of the opportunities I had ahead of me, I felt more confident that I could achieve my aspirations. I believe BEST program helped me to develop a better plan for my future and I hope other students can benefit from it as well.
